This event is not just about looking back—it’s about protecting what’s been handed down to us so we can pass it on to the next generation. Whether it’s a quilt, a Bible, or a family photograph, these heirlooms tell our stories. And taking care of them is how we make sure our history doesn’t get lost.

We’re proud to share some Heirloom Care Tips from the Anne Arundel County Archaeology Lab and History Center to help you keep your family treasures safe:

  • Light: Keep your heirlooms out of direct sunlight and fluorescent light

  • Temperature: Cool is better.

  • Water: Keep them dry!

  • Contaminants: Cigarette smoke, certain plastics, and pollution can stain or damage items.

For more tips, check out the resources shared by the Anne Arundel County Archaeology Lab here.
